Privacy policy

CPE Keeper ("we", "us") is an iPhone app that helps accountants track continuing professional education (CPE) against state board requirements. This policy explains what information the app collects, why, who it is shared with, and the choices you have. The short version: we collect only what the app needs to track your CPE, we never sell your information, and we don't show ads or track you across other apps and websites.
Information we collect

Information that stays on your phone
Your appearance setting, your chosen license and your deadline reminders are stored only on your device. Reminders are scheduled locally by iOS; we don't send them from a server and don't collect a push notification token.
What we don't collect
We don't collect your location, contacts, photo library (only the specific files you choose to upload), advertising identifiers or browsing history. The app contains no advertising and no third-party analytics or tracking tools.
How certificates are read
When you upload a certificate or transcript, the file is sent securely to our AI provider, Anthropic, to read the course details. The result is returned to the app for you to review and confirm before anything is saved. Under Anthropic's commercial terms, files sent this way are not used to train its AI models.
Who we share information with
We share information only with the service providers that run the app on our behalf, and only as needed for them to do so:
- Supabase hosts our database, sign-in system and file storage.
- Anthropic reads the certificates and transcripts you upload, as described above.
- Apple distributes the app and processes subscription payments under its own privacy policy.
We don't sell or rent your information, and we don't share it for advertising. We may disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights and safety of our users or others.
How your information is protected
Information is encrypted in transit between the app and our servers. Database and storage access rules ensure that each account can reach only its own records and files. No method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and limit who can access it.
How long we keep it
We keep your account information, course records and uploaded files for as long as you have an account, because they are your CPE records. When you delete your account, we delete them from our active systems within 30 days. Copies may remain in routine backups for a limited time before they are overwritten.
Your choices and rights
- Access and correct: you can view and edit your license details and course records in the app at any time.
- Delete: you can delete individual courses and files in the app, or delete your whole account from Settings in the app. You can also email us to ask for deletion.
- Export: you can export a report of your CPE records from the app.
- Notifications: you can turn deadline reminders off in the app or in iPhone Settings.
Depending on where you live, including California, you may have additional rights, such as the right to know what personal information we hold and to ask us to delete it. We honor these requests for all users. Email us to make a request; we won't treat you differently for making one.
Children
CPE Keeper is intended for working professionals and is not directed to children. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page. If a change significantly affects how your information is used, we'll let you know in the app before it takes effect.
